Ben has been engaged in governance, human rights, conflict and PVE for 25 years. He was the consultant research coordinator for UNDP’s recent study into violent extremism in South-East Asia. He has assessed RTF efforts in a wide range of Asian, European and MENA contexts. He is currently conducting a legal gap analysis on RTF in the Maldives for the MFA.
He has advised the UN, bilateral funders and NGO’s in a wide range of capacities. Most recently he has been advising UNDP in Afghanistan on due diligence of the security forces, in Tunisia on PVE, and in Myanmar assessing UN wide impact in Rakhine state.
Prior roles include South Asia Director for the International Commission of Jurists, Global Human Rights Adviser to the UK FCO, and First Secretary at the British Embassy to Kathmandu where he played a key role in establishing both the OHCHR human rights mission and then UNMIN in support of the peace process.
