Impact: How have Societies Moved Forward from Violent Extremism?

When a community or society is affected by violent extremism the purpose of the attack can be manifold, but an ambition of installing fear in a population is part of the violent extremist individual or groups ambitions. 

The opening session of Oslo III will explore the power of resilience after attack and will dive into what can be done from a development perspective to prevent violent extremism. Hear how communities are moving from feelings of anger, vengeance, and shock to rebuilding and recovering from grief.

Format:

  1. Opening and welcome remark: by the Director for UNDP Oslo Governance Centre
  2. Video Launch: UNDP Preventing Violent Extremism
  3. Opening statements: by UNDP Administrator & State Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway
  4. Conversation: with two award-winning film directors on the topic of how communities are moving on, rebuilding and recovering from violent extremism.
